Celtic Media Festival nominations

Rondo Media are proud that two of its productions have been shortlisted for awards at the Celtic Media Festival.

The festival, which is in its 32nd year, was established to promote the languages and cultures of the Celtic countries on screen and in broadcasting.

The Indian Doctor, which has already scooped a Royal Television Society and Broadcast Magazine award, has been shortlisted in the Drama Series category, whilst Côr Cymru 2011 has been shortlisted in the Entertainment category.

The 2012 festival takes place in the city of Derry in April.

 
Rondo win Broadcast Award

Rondo Media are delighted to have won a Broadcast Award at the industry magizne's award ceremony on 2 February.

The Indian Doctor, a co production between Rondo Media and Avatar Films, captured the Best Daytime Programme award at the star studded event held at The Grosvenor Hotel, London

The first series was broadcast on BBC One to much critical acclaim in November 2010 and a second series is due to be broadcast in spring 2012.

"We're absolutely thrilled by The Indian Doctor's success," said Rondo Media chief executive, Gareth Williams as the programme beat series such as Jamie's 30 Minute Meals and Antiques Road Trip to the award.

"It is a great boost to us as we continue to build on Rondo's portfolio of popular drama productions," he added.

Plenty of Christmas Cheer from Rondo

Rondo has plenty of Christmas television cheer over the Christmas and New Year and we ick off the Christmas, as usual, with the Carol service from Llangollen.

Join Gwyn Hughes Jones, Al Lewis, Ysgol Pen Barras Choir, Crescendo and Rhos Male Voice Choir as well as Northop Hall Brass Band and several other guests from Llangollen Pavilion.

There will be a special Christmas edition of Tîm Talent as Ifan visits Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones, Amwlch to help their Christmas show Haleliwia, mae'n Ddolig go off with a bang.

The comedian, Iwan John, the singer Mirain Haf and designer Leah Hughes share their experience and knowledge as the young pupils try to ensure they wow their audience.

To celebrate a new series of Rownd a Rownd which starts in January, three special programmes delving through the archives and revealing a few secrets will be broadcast over the Christmas holiday.

Rownd a Rownd: S4C at 1830 on 2 January

In a programme to be broadcast over the Christmas period, Rondo have spent a year in the company of Mark Evans from Lanrhaeadr near Denbigh.

Mark has appeared in some of the world's most famous musicals such as High School Musical, The Rocky Horror Show and Oklahoma and has started the West End in Wales venture which is a singing and dancing workshop back home in north Wales.

It's almost become a Christmas tradition that he takes eight stars of S4C on a culinary whistle stop tour of Wales in Pryd o Sêr. The eight stars who have been brave enough to take the challenge are Ffion Dafis, Sian Lloyd, Courtney Hamilton, Eleanor Burnham, Hywel Davies, Wyn Davies, Rhodri Williams and Steffan Rhodri.

Sgorio will bring all the excitement of the season from the football world in the company of Dylan Ebenezer, John Hartson and Malcolm Allen and it's sure to be an emotional day when Bangor City play their last ever match at Farrar Road.

And don't forget about the Digwyddiadau 2011 programmes. On Christmas Eve there's a chance to get into the spirit of Christmas with Digwyddiadau 11: Nadolig y Plant as four primary schools perform original Christmas shows.

And on Newe Year's Eve Digwyddiadau 11: Blwyddyn Newydd Dda! will be live in the Winter Wonderland in Cardiff where a host of guests will be joining us live to celebrate the new year in the capital and also from Nant Gwrtheyrn.

 
More success for The Indian Doctor

Following its success at this year’s RTS awards, the BBC1 drama series The Indian Doctor has also been nominated for a Broadcast award. The ceremony will be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London during February 2012.
 
BAFTA success for Rondo

Rondo productions have won four BAFTA Wales Awards.

Mali Harries won in the best actress category for her performance as Megan in the BBC 1 drama series The Indian Doctor, which also won a best Fiction Editor award for John Gillanders.

John also took home the best Factual Editor award for S4C documentary Y Tren i Ravensbruck, which also won in the Best Camera category for Mike Harrison.

 
Rondo wins Gwynedd Business Award

Rondo has won a major business award as part of Gwynedd Business Week. The company won their award in the Creative Industries Category as part of the ceremony held at Galeri in Caernarfon.

Wales Screen Agency contract

Rondo is pleased to have won a contract by the Wales Screen Agency to produce a 90 minute film featuring highlights from the recent Port Talbot Passion Play starring Michael Sheen. This ambitious, landmark project was filmed over the Easter weekend.

The production has received huge acclaim and has been one of Wales’s most notable theatric productions, combining professional actors and members of the public.

 
Rondo scoop an RTS Award

Rondo Media are delighted to have won a Royal Television Society award at the annual RTS Programme Awards ceremony on March 15th.

The Indian Doctor, a co production between Rondo Media and Avatar Films, captured the Daytime and Early Peak Award at the star studded event held at The Grosvenor Hotel, London

The series was broadcast on BBC One to much critical acclaim in November 2010 and was broadcast again on BBC One Wales and BBC Two.

"We're thrilled to have received such good news," said Rondo Media chief executive, Gareth Williams.

"Rondo Media is busy producing a high volume of drama output with the popular youth drama 'Rownd a Rownd' as well as a brand new eight part drama series, 'Porthpenwaig' and two new youth drama series for transmission on S4C later this year.

"The fantastic news last night is a great boost for us as we continue building on our portfolio of popular drama productions."

 
Rondo success at BAFTA Cymru

Rondo Media has won 2 awards at this year's Bafta Cymru Awards held at the Wales Millennium Centre on May 23rd.

Dudley Newbery and Garmon Emyr picked up the award for the best entertainment series, for the celebrity food format 'Pryd o Ser'. There was a win also for Martyn Rourke, in the Best Lighting Director category, for his terrific work on the Karl Jenkins Celebration Concert last year.

 
Rondo win substantial contract

Rondo Media has won a substantial contract as part of a recent S4C tender to produce Welsh language programmes and content for young people.

The focus will be on comedy, drama and entertainment. Rondo is confident that this new output will appeal to younger audiences and will attract new viewers to S4C.

Winning the contract strengthens Rondo’s expertise in producing popular drama series such as Rownd a Rownd and Amdani.

Chairman of Rondo Media, Robin Evans said :” This is good news, not only for Rondo, but also for the TV industry in north Wales. The three year contract will enable us as a company to recruit fresh, new talent in all fields of production, from producing, writing, editing and technical expertise.”

Gareth Williams, CEO of Rondo added :”This investment by S4C will safeguard jobs in the creative sector in the north and will enable Rondo to nurture and develop new talent whilst also developing the skills that already exist in the fields of drama, comedy and entertainment.”

 
Rondo to make BBC1 drama

Rondo Media is to produce a BBC1 daytime drama starring Sanjeev Bhaskar as high-flying immigrant doctor who finds himself working in 1960s Wales.

The 5 x 45 minute series focuses on the Asian doctors who came to Britain following an invitation by then health minister, Enoch Powell.

"We wanted to celebrate the immigrant contribution to the NHS," said Rondo Media producer, Tom Ware.

"It's still the case that more than 70% of doctors in the Welsh valleys are immigrants or British Asians."

The series, a co-production between Rondo Media and Avatar, will air in the autumn and will feature as part of a week-long series of factual programmes by the BBC looking at social changes during the decade.
